Catholic School Council

Ontario Regulation 612/00 confirms the advisory role of school councils and clearly states that their purpose is to improve student achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system to parents. This regulation also clarifies the role of school councils and establishes their right to express their views on any issues that are important to them.

The Catholic School Council is an important organization for guardians/parents in the community. Saint Joan of Arc C.H.S has a very active school council and we encourage all parents to consider their involvement in the council. The fundamental purpose of a school council is to achieve this purpose:

  • To foster participation by parents and partnerships with community groups
  • To be involved in plans to improve the school
  • To influence decisions made by principals, school boards and the Ministry of Education and Training

On behalf of the entire Saint Joan of Arc (SJA) school community, I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our 2024-25 Catholic School Council for their hard work and dedication over the past year. Your unwavering commitment to supporting our students, staff, and families has made a significant impact on our school.

To our;

  • Chair – Maria D’Alfonso-Gentilin,
  • Treasurer – Ginger Peacock,
  • Secretary – Sabrina Gareri,
  • OAPCE Representatives – Adjoa Adjei, and Kaniz Sivjee
  • Community Representative – Abbas Rizvi,
  • Non-Teaching Representative – Silvia Amato and Andrea Telfer
  • Teaching Representative – Trevor Medeiros
  • Members at Large – Mohammad R. Akbari, Carmen Cirillo, Sandy Vieira-Gallo, Carla D’Andrea-Hemeryck, Cathy Martino-Porretta, and Patrizia Tiempo

Thank you for your leadership and the countless hours you devoted to ensuring our school community thrived. Your efforts have enriched the experiences of our students and helped to strengthen the partnership between home, school, and parish.

NEW!!!!

2025 – 26 Saint Joan of Arc CHS Catholic School Council. Catholic School Council

Once again, we will be holding elections for the important role of the Saint Joan of Arc CHS Catholic School Council. Catholic School Council members hold a special commitment to their school community. They demonstrate enthusiasm, a desire to make a difference, and a willingness to contribute in a meaningful way to strengthen the partnership between home, school, and parish.

As a parent/guardian of a child at this school, you are eligible to self-nominate or nominate another parent/guardian of a child at this school to be a voting member of the 2025/2026 Catholic School Council.  Attached below is the Google Form for the nomination process.

Successful candidates will hold their elected position for a term of one year and will be expected to attend the monthly meetings. Parents and Guardians can make a difference to our children’s education. Being a member of Council provides an opportunity to make recommendations to the school, the school board and interact with other parents and staff. No one is singularly responsible for decisions. A representation of parents who reflect the diversity of our school population is needed.

  • Deadline for submission of nomination forms: Friday, September 19, 2025
  • Election Day: September 30, 2025

Note:  Should an Election be required, parents may access information on each candidate by visiting the school website on Wednesday September 24, 2025. Elections will take place in person on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 @ 7:00 pm (in the school Library). Each parent or guardian of a child at this school (in attendance) will be asked to submit only one vote for Catholic School Council candidates.  Election results will be posted on the school website by Thursday, October 2, 2025.

  • All subsequent council meetings: TBD following the election of the Executive
