The Guidance Department serves the students, teachers, and parents of our school community. Counsellors conduct appointments, visit classrooms and teach the Career Studies course (Grade 10), to inform students about useful study skills, post-secondary education and careers. Counsellors also assist students in making successful transitions from elementary to secondary school, and onto post-secondary institutions or dircetly into their careers.
Through a variety of approaches, the counsellors provide opportunities for students to acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to:
- know and appreciate themselves - relate effectively to others - develop appropriate educational goals & plans - explore the ever-changing variety of
career paths
The counsellor’s role is to counsel and to help, not to decide for students. Students are encouraged to make use of various planning tools in order to make informed decisions about their pathways. Counsellors also provide referrals, and liaison with community social service agencies when necessary. Parents are welcome and encouraged to phone and make appointments to see counsellors about any concern that they may have regarding their son or daughter's progress. "Drop by, say hello, meet the counsellors... the door is always open."
